Burdock Ceilidh Band

Return to Previous Page

It really doesn’t matter whether you call it a ceili, a ceilidh or a barndance, this vibrant mix of traditional social dances and tunes, drawn mainly from British sources and presented by a lively and dedicated specialist group of musicians, is a splendid way to celebrate almost any occasion.

“Magical traditional Celtic rhythms send dancers into a whirl as crisply-performed jigs and reels make the ceilidh really swing…”

The four to six-piece Burdock Band brings along a friendly, enthusiastic specialist dance-caller, Dan, whose legendary powers of persuasion will ensure that all your guests, even those who have never encountered a ceilidh before, will feel like joining in and having a superb evening of fun.

Gerry’s catchy accordion sits at the rhythmic and harmonic foundation of the trademark Burdock Band sound, supported by multi-instrumentalist Mick on guitar, banjo, mandolin or hurdy-gurdy. Lilting melodies are democratically shared between instruments, and decorated by Ann on fiddle, with Belinda alternating between flute and whistle, while Vicki’s bodhran and assorted percussion drives it all along and sets the toes a-tapping.

It’s a rich, vigorous musical texture with plenty of bounce to encourage dancers to pick up their feet. And from time to time, when dancers are in need of a well-earned rest, Dan will simply suggest they relax with a pint to hear a song from the band.  It’s an excellent recipe for a great party.

The band is equipped with a high-quality PA system producing excellent sound in venues of all sizes. Friendly and approachable, the musicians will be very happy to discuss your event with you beforehand, in order to tailor the music and dancing repertoires exactly to your requirements.

Get your dancing shoes ready and stand by for frenetic fun and frolics, traditional Celtic style, when The Burdock Ceilidh Band takes the stage.

  • Toe-tapping, rip-roaring traditional ceilidh music, tailored to your event

Sorry for not doing this sooner, but we just wanted to say thank you so much to the band who played at our wedding. It was really great and provided the perfect end to the day. The caller did a great job of trying to get people up to dance and was great fun in leading it.

Sorry its taken so long to thank you guys for the wonderful job you did at our party to celebrate our wedding. Thank you so very much for making the evening so much fun and very special, we received glowing reviews from our guests and the only complaint was that they wanted more of you! I would recommend your band and should I ever have a party in the future I would definitely book you again. It was a brilliant night and you helped make it so. We just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all for helping to make our day so special, and for indulging in our eccentric requests! All out guests enjoyed the ceilidh and have commented that the music, and patient guidance, were just fantastic – helping to make our day so very special.
